So far i've avoided anti virus systems as much as possible, with the theory that some of them such as Norton actually slow the computer by such an extent that i'd rather just have the virus, that normally effectively does the same ( Just reduces productivity ).
A lot of viruses are irritating but not actually that hard to get rid of, and so long as you browse with an element of care, you shouldn't pick up any viruses. Windows 7 so far has seemed secure, with the security that comes built in.
Recently since i've built my new rig, I decided it would be powerful enough to be worth getting an antivirus or protection system, and from what i've read Nod32 is up there with the best.
So far, i've purchases Malwarebytes' Anti Malware, because I know that isn't too hard on systeme resources whilst having a good detection rate, and I may purchase nod32 to go with it, along with windows firewall.
I have had Win7 since release, and vista since release before that, and since the release of Vista I have gone without any severe virus that has been hard to remove without any software. It's not difficult, and the few small nasties I've had have not been too challenging to remove. I use my PC every day, i'm a computer science student, and if I can browse without downloading all sorts of viruses, accepting activ X and downloading suspicious exe files, i'm sure anyone can.
Having said that, if you were to get any ( I normally advise people to just be careful instead and maybe use an online scanner every now and then rather than a full package ) I would get nod32. IMO though on older systems with sub 2GB memory etc, they're just more hassle than they're worth.
