Nod32, is that it ?

Doesn't use much RAM at all (about 1MB!), except when you have the GUI open. It justs sits in the tray and intercepts and notifies when an app tries to launch itself on boot. Dead easy.

but i bet it's never stopped any nasties on your machine, becuase you've never had any since you sound like a 'savvy' user :)

Agreed 100%.

What seems to escape a lot of PC users is that virii and malware are not airborne - generally, you contract them through naivete and ignorance (or plain stupidity). If you deploy common sense there is no need for 6 or 7 anti-viral and anti-spyware apps to be installed.....

;)

Still sensible to have an AV for the most sensible people to... ;)

I havnt had spyware issues for years now so i never use anything on top of nod32, i just have no need.

I'm not sure you can count half the things there spyware or malware cleaners find as malicious anyway. I mean i know most of these things clean things like recent documents etc..., and thats something i personally like to have access to.

Seriously if you go over everything the scanners find, would you seriously count everything listed as malicious or a threat to your security or system?....

At the end of the day people like to feel protected, but as mentioned, a little common sense goes a long long way...... so why jump through so many hoops...

I rarely scan..... and i can say with being 99.9% certain there's never a need to.

Disable system restore
Use Firefox browser or similar
Use NOD32
Don't go on stupid links

:)

Whats "evil" about system restore?

Most newish virus and spyware use system restore to restore themselves after removal have to disable it and sometimes access "system volume information" from a boot disk and delete that to clear it

When I used Nod32, I just moved to kaspersky 7...

I used Firefox
CCleaner
Ad Aware

And that was it, If your generally good with PC's you should know what links are safe and which are not. Especially if you see some of your friends PC's which are full of virus's.

If you want something with a better interface but not bloated, Kaspersky 7 is a great option I use it on vista and I am about to put it on a new install of xp.
