Nod32 only uses single core?

Hi all. :)

I never realised that Nod32 doesn't utilise multi-core CPU's... I guess not many applications do. Just running a scan, and since installing some fancy widgets, I've noticed that just one core is being maxed out.

I've emailed eset asking if they plan to support multi-core CPU's soon as a lot of customers would benefit. When you think about it, all these PC's in the shops are at least dual-core. I think it can only help and improve Nod32 even more. Shame it doesn't use all the cores as I do find there is a short delay when accessing the advanced features. More so when scanning and then trying to access the setup screen, etc.

Are there any AV packages that support more than one core?

Cheers.

Are you using version 3?

Yeah mate, v3.0.560.0. (Windows XP Home with SP3)

I mean Windows itself, Photoshop and Games all seem to work well and I can see the load being distributed evenly. Just noticed that Nod32 maxed out 1 core and that was it.

Maybes re-install?

May be an XP thing. It's been a while since I ran a scan a scan in XP.

But in my Vista it's definitely using ~50% of each of my two cores.

Cheers Cob.

Could perhaps another XP user run a scan and let me know what happens for them please?

Thanks. :)

i have only a lowly single core cpu so doesnt affect me but wasnt there a process affinity switch for explorer that affected the use of multiple cores? worth a look?

Just read up on that. Never knew about Process Affinity. Just saw in Task Manger there is an option, but apparently it will reset after each reboot, or when the program is closed, which is a bit annoying.

I found this program,

May give that a go...

i remember there being a way to permantly force it on but it may require a fresh install i cant remember exactly never had any need lol still on an xp 2800 barton:D

Ok I've updated the screenshot to show Task Manager as well.

Gareth170, does your task manger look like that or is is all even? As you can see it's all on one core.

Cheers.
