Noise Dampening kits, are they worth it?

Anyone bought one the noise dampening kits from here and got any opinion on whether or not they're worth it?

Also, they appear to be sticky backed to attach to (I assume) the inside walls of the case, how hard are they to neatly remove if say you wanted to add a few more fans (as they apparently in places block out some of the potentially unused fan bays), and not leave any sticky residue () on the case.

Cheers everyone

Not worth it no the real problem will be the case + fans

I mean, my case isn't especially noisy or anything. Got an NZXT Phantom enthusiast, but was just wondering as NZXT have got a noise dampening kit especially for this case that is on this week only deal, and wondered if it was worth it :). I was thinking about some new fans though anyway ;)

changing the stock fans would me more worth it than spending 25 quid on some foam

My problem is I'm almost positive the PSU is the problem, it's making way more noise than I think it should be, and wasn't sure it the foam stuff would maybe quieten it down slightly. I've only had it 3 and a bit weeks and it's making a weird whining noise (I think it's be PSU, although I can't be 100%, and am not sure how to test it by itself ).

Sounds like it could be coil whine? Unfortunately if so it could be down to any number of things, or even a combination of different things. Could be worth trying a different PSU (If you can borrow one from somewhere) first and see if that makes a difference?

As far as noise dampening kits go, from using them in an Antec case circa 2003 I can't say it made a squat of difference. Your mileage may vary.

PSU coil wine? Didn't even know they got coil wine :p. I do have another PSU in a box somewhere I could probably try. I think I might try and replace my CPU cooler first, as that could be the buzzing problem, although again, I'm not sure. Just cannot pinpoint it. I thought it was mechanical HDD, but I've got that disconnected at the moment, but the sound is still there, which is good in a way because I was on the verge of ditching it and spending waaaaayyy too much on trying to get a bunch of SSD's .

try and find the problem - be systematic.
start with the case fans (easiest) unplug each one in turn - does the noise stop
if not plug back in and stop the next fan
HSF next - unplug/stop fan - does noise stop
GPU - stop fans - listen - restart fans
Psu - you can either jump start the psu (disconnect the 24pin and use a paperclip)
to hear the psu without any other fans.
or use your finger/stick to keep the fan still when booting.
to hear your system without the psu fan.

Swap out the psu will also help identify the source of the noise.
Is the whine a very high pitch - and your parents can only just hear it?
If so it's likely coil whine.

If it is coil whine then some types of foam can make a differance (blocking all the holes make more differance)
What psu is it?

I did most of this yesterday :). As far as I know it's either the PSU or the CPU fan, but for some reason I can't seem to pinpoint it. I will try that paper clip trick and see if I can get it started without anything else to have a listen to that fan and that fan alone.

I don't think it's coil whine, unless PSU coil whine sounds vastly different to GPU coil whine as I had a little bit of whine with my 7970 when stress testing it so I know what that sounds like ;).

I've got an xfx xxx edition 850w, which I know has a fair few problems noise wise :(.

Disconnecting the cpu HS fan must be easier - use a case fan if your cpu is running hot

Do you mean instead of hotwiring the PSU? I used speedfan to turn off the CPU fan (checked it, and it definitely isn't moving :p), and there is still a weird buzzing/humming from somewhere. Although not quite as bad.

I'm almost positive it is adding to the noise :p. It is just the stock fan, and it does buzz a little. I am going to try and jump the PSU soon, see what I can work out. Either that or plug in my old corsair tx850 which I replaced to be modular lol.

People have a hard time fitting other fans to the NZXT brand cases just to let you know. The stock fans are great at keeping my system coooooool and I don't think many are better.

I meant it was the stock intel CPU cooler. But that's good to know for the future :). I did read that the top 200mm fan, isn't truly 200mm, and so it can be tough to fit fans up there
