Im looking to knock the noise level down on my pc a notch or two, i have a GTX580, its not overly noisy, but when Im watching a movie and its quiet I find it a little obtrusive (running two screens).

My options are to fit one of the twin frozr style coolers, which is going to stump me about £50, or flog the card (as ive stuck it on the MM) and downgrade to something a little less demanding such as a 6850 or something.

I wouldnt want to lose performance if the noise isnt going to be much different, everything else in my pc is pretty quiet so how quiet are these newer cards with custom style coolers?

I've got the 560Ti TFII and it is absolutely silent. I am VERY fussy about noise.

In gaming the fans speed up slightly, but I can only just hear them over my case fans, which themselves are very quiet anyway.

That is using the default fan curve on the card. Which is set rather aggressively, you can easily drop the cards top end fan speed by 10-20%, making it silent compared to the ambient case fan noise, even under max load.

On the whole i'm very very impressed with the TFII cooler. :)

I wonder how the TFIII cooler compares...

TFIII is meant to be a louder than the TFII, but I don't know how that compares to the stock 580 cooler, or how much louder it actually is than the TFII...

EDIT - MSI Say:

TFII = 19.6dB quieter compared to reference cooling
TFIII = 13.9dB quieter than reference HD 6950

So TFII is ~6dB quieter than the TFIII.

The 580 stock cooler is pretty damn noisy compared to the TFII, but honestly, the TFII is pretty noisy at max RPM aswell. If you're looking at reducing your overall case noise, and it's the noisiest thing in there, I wouldn't necessarily recommend a TFII. If you really want it quiet, hit up a waterblock. Only realistic solution if it's bothering you that much.

It doesnt bother me when im using the pc, its only when im watching stuff on my tv that the noise bothers me, quite happy for something to ramp up with noise going out to drown it out.

The 560ti TFII is pretty noisy with its aggressive default fan profile. With a modded bios from the msi forum at idle the fan is reduced to 30% as opposed to 40% and it's pretty damn silent. My hdds/case fans make more noise.

But yeah during gaming it can't be described as silent at all.
