ADSL Link Downstream Speed 2272 Noise Margin 12 db
Upstream Connection kbps 832 kbps Noise Margin 6 db
Downstream Line Attenuation 56 db
Upstream Line Attenuation 15.5 db

Edit:just rebooted the router so in a while i expect the connection sped to drop
Right, above is my current stats(note the downstream margin)
about 2 weeks ago the downstream margin was at 6db(and had been at or around that for years)
As a result my line is at a lower speed 1500kbps profile, and was at 2000 kbps profile before
I am with UKFSN and must say the tech support this time seems to be less than helpful :( end result he told me to phone Entanet)
I thought my contract was with UKFSN?And they should help/sort it?but anyway
To my question any observations/comments before i phone Entanet....please give me ammunition/advise on how i can tell/ask them to put the downstream margin back how it was before 2 weeks ago
Thanks for reading :)

2272kbps should be bang on the nose for the 2Mbps profile.

If your modem connects at 12dB SNR margin it sounds like BTw's increased your target SNR margin. If you want that reset then that's what you need to ask Enta to do.

So i will just have to phone enta and ask them to get BT to reset my Noise Margin for downstream back to 6db?
Will i need to have some reason other than slower speed?or should asking them to lower it back to what it was be enough reason?
Just trying to make sure i have all the info i can get before i call them tomorrow :)
Any reason you can think of why they raised it,Line has been relatively stable for ages
ADSL2 not due till sometime next year for my exchange either so it can`t be for that

It `looks` like my Netgear DG834G V1 router is dying :(
Have connected up a non wireless version and the line is stable atm at 2500 ish
Will give it a few more days to be sure but it looks like the ADSL part is failing
So any recommendations on a replacement, good for poor quality/long phone lines?
preferably with detachable R-SMA antenna mount(though not essential)

Tried a different router for a few days and still no increase in speed(atm it is 2018 down with 12db noise margin)
Am in contact with Enta ,the chap i mailed said he would ask BT to reset my noise margin?,well i did see it at 6db for about a day no increase in my speed(I just want it back to what it was about 3 weeks ago :()
Getting ticked off now and am going to give it a few days then downgrade my package to min ,although i reckon it is BT messing up
What i would like someone to explain in easy language is why the noise margin was raised to 12 and not left well alone :(
It has been fine for YEARS ,yes it drops and resynchs quite regularly BUT i never asked them to raise the damn noise margin
Rant over
for now

You won't get onto the 2Mbps IP profile without connecting >2272kbps and staying there.

If the target was set to 12dB, it was because either the ISP asked for it to be set to that or BTw thought it would significantly improve stability.

Oh i see
below are a few replies from enta
I have raised this with BT to reset the SNR for you,

BT have come back to us stating that the remote tests are showing
possible problems with your equipment on the line, they have enabled
interleaving for 48 hours to see if it will make an improvement on the
line however I will pass it back and ask for the SNR to be reset still,
Wish that BT had left well alone as it looks like they raised it back up to 12
Will try moaning at Enta again:(
