Hey guys,

I have changed to open back headphones and when I need silence in game, I can hear in the background the GPU fans ramping right up.

I set a custom fan profile on afterburner, so my GPU stays cool. It currently peaks around 61c at 80% fan speed.

my question is, can I let my GPU go higher temps and bring the fan speed down so the levels are better for my gaming?

If so, what would be “safe” temps for the GPU?

cheers guys!

61'C is actually on the low side. You are completely safe anything up to 85-90'c. Apparently 89'C is the thermal maximum at which point it'll start to thermal throttle. I'd be looking to reduce the fan speed and be happy with an additional 10'C for lower noise and identical performance.

70s are fine although personally I wouldn't really want to run a GPU in the 80s long term.

You may also want to consider undervolting as you can lower temps while still maintaining the same performance although I'd start by lowering fans to around 50~60% and seeing where temps settle first.

If it reduced lifespan from ten years to eight will he still have the card in 2028? It's very unlikely, but having said that with the current card situation he might have! By then the 9080tiozzrx4superturbo edition will be £10,000 and come with neural jack connections.

Stange,

I altered my fan curve, and played a quick session of COD Cold War, (I know 10mins isnt long enough to fully get an accurate reading, its just a rough one) and when I quit and checked AB, my temps..

GPU : 59c peak
GPU usage : 97% peak
Fan Speed : 58% peak

My CPU temp did raise in this game compaired to such as EFT, its was on a couple cores, peaked at 66c which I think is reasonable..

Im just surprised that changing the fan profile in AB has made it quieter and cooler?? Mind you 10-15 isnt enough, but even at a few degrees warmer..PLUS my room is warmish, being a nice day for once here! :D

Weird, I just finsihed a session (good length) of EFT..and while last night i was peaking 59c GPU @ 80% fan speed, today I changed this down, and only a few degrees more :eek:

Tonight, I was sitting at 61c @ 60% fan speed?? crazy that i am only going up a few degrees for 1/5 chopped off oin fan speed, and I cant really hear it while in a "silent" part of the game, unlike at 80% was LOUD LOUD!

Yep, played for hours last night, and my cup peaked @66c and the gpu @ 64c.

happy, those temps well in range of being ok then?

@Blue160 cheers for the clarification :)

Downloading Cyberpunk atm, anyone know if its a lot more patched and playable now? Or do I wait?

Wanna see how the machine copes with a game like this :p

Played about 40 minutes of cyberpunk 2077 last night, awesome so far..

And I just wanted to say how impressed I am with my GPU cooling..

I have the “basic” 2080s card, the MSI Ventus 2 fan card, and after the session in a demanding game such as CP2077, I was getting peak of 65c on the GPU and high 60’s (with one core hitting bang on 70c) for the CPU.

so overall I’m happy, but one thing..can you put a FPS counter on CP? I can’t seem to find an option?
