Noise when turning only on cold start

Hi guys,

Was hoping to get some help. I have an Audi A3. Which makes a slight whistling noise when i turn my wheels only on a cold start for like 5 seconds. Is this normal? Or does anyone know the issue.

Power steering pump, probably normal tbh. Our old Mini did it too.

Whistling or whining / screeching noise? Screeching could be a slipping drive belt to the power steering pump. I am not particularly familiar with that engine, but many engines have a rubber laminated crank damper pulley. If the lamination fails this too can screech or whistle under load from the belt driven ancillaries like power steering and highly loaded alternator. Especially just after a cold start.

The power steering fluid could be dirty, some reservoirs have a plastic filter gauze in them that gets choked up causing cavitation of the cold, viscous fluid. Could be a knackered pump bearing. I like those sorts of faults, good earners...
