I have a 2003 VW Polo. For a while now my brakes have been screeching very badly whenever I use them. Upon visible inspection, the pads have very little wear, although the rear drums are extremely rusty. I have not changed any of the braking system since I bought the car 6 months ago, although the AA engineer who checked the car said the pads were in good condition so I have had no reason to. I am also assuming the relevant warning light would illuminate if the pads are worn?
Either way, they make a horrible noise which I can't seem to avoid. It will only occur when I brake lightly though, and only when the brakes have been warmed up after a bit of use. Any suggestions?
Also, recently I've starting getting a noise I can only describe as a 'yelp' every time I lift my foot off the brake. It is quite loud and very audible from outside the car. It will only occur when I am using the brakes to stop the car though. ie. it won't happen if I just sit at a standstill pressing and releasing the brake. Has anyone come across this?
Many Thanks
