Guys,

Does anyone here have fan noise problems with the Leadtek GTX280 cards? Mine is pretty much silent at idle but some games (Grand Ages of Rome, Stalker CS) make the fan go ballistic. The card is fitted in an Akasa Mirage which has a Noctua case fan mounted at the front.

What sort of temps are you guys seeing on your cards? And does anyone know of any third party coolers for these cards (apart from the Arctic Cooling one that I don't think is released yet)?

Thanks for the assist.

only other 3rd party cooling is water cooling. you could try turning the fan down manually?

I will try tweaking the fan speed tomorrow and see what happens.

Has anyone gotten any benefit from removing and re-mounting the standard cooler (refresh thermal paste, check heatsink contact etc..)?

Although I don't have a GTX 280 I have always done this with the cards I have owned and have seen gains (8800GTS 320, 8800GTS 512 and 4870 512)

I haven't done my recent GTX260 yet as it never goes above 70C or 40% fan so I feel the gaine would be minimal.

My Leadtek was the same - fine at idle but sounded like a jet engine when pushed.

Was one of the factors which finally pushed me to watercool.

No louder than the fans on my case on high, my TV is louder.
Temp idle around 35 and whilst gaming around 70'ish (+10 when got the fire on)

Hesus H corbert, what are you using...!! My dyson hoover is louder than my GPU fan @ 100%

Yes sarcasm as the 'jet engine' thing is soooo exagerated.

My gtx 280 idles at 36c, when gaming it never ges above 70c, fan set manually to 70%, i game with headphones so i never notice the fan noise, my previous raid0 set up with 2 74gb raptors made more noise, hence they got chucked, even with the fan on auto the card is very quiet, apart from running furmark when it hits 80c plus, the fan kicks in on auto settings.

Mine only lifts it's fan off idle running furmark, but I set it manually to 100% when gaming with it's overclock (720MHz) active..........with a Ford DFV blaring out me speakers I can't hear it at all.....and even when I stop, there is far more noise from my antec900's case fans, and the Yate Loon in my Tuniq Tower.

Nice clock on the core, ive had mine at 714/1251/1504 for 3dmark runs, card is an xfx xt 640 oc version using stock cooling.
