I think this is due to the fan speed, I've opened it up and it certainly gets worse if I disable a fan (another goes supersonic) is this a known problem? the room is fairly cool so surely the fans don't need to run so loud?

Was thinking of swapping out the standard ones for some 92mm Noctua - is this a warranty voider?

Welcome to servers.

The ML350 will (most likely) be running 5 pin PWM fans. I haven't seen any alternatives in my travels.

When you remove one fan it'll increase the RPM of the others to make up for the "failed" fan, it's a built in design to stop overheating. Some models will actually shut the system down on a single fan failure.

Even if you could replace the fans, I would very much expect that it would void the warranty.

Be sure to install the ProLiant Support Pack, you'll then be able to monitor fan speed more effectively and the health agents may also result in a slower fan speed and more optimal profile.

Have you checked in the bios for any settings?

The boss is literally glued to her email, scheduling downtime is a MPITA. I have downloaded the support pack and will see if that can give me some fan speeds tomorrow when I get it installed

can you not get to the bios through the iLo..? PSP normally sorts out the fans current one from memory is 9.30

We had fun with this, server would fire up fans for no discernible reason, turned out to be a faulty PSU. Ring HP and they'll ask you to install a few things first. You have a 3Y warranty on it as standard, and i believe it should still be within this :)
