Noisy PSU Fan?

Hey all,

I currently have a silverstone strider 850w Modular PSU. The fan on this is very noisy and seems to have a rattling tone to it aswell.

I have a full custom loop on my GPU and CPU with 140mm 700rpm fans, the PSU is very loud and can be heard over 3 140mm fans.

What are my options short of replacing the PSU?

Thanks

Well, if there's something touching fan blades that could cause noise.
What's the exact model code/number of PSU?

With that PSU being of those Enhance builts with second tier maker secondary capacitors 100% shielded from any cooling airflow I wouldn't waste thinking time in replacing fans.

Power semiconductors sure get cooling in that design, but secondary capacitors are basicalyl in oven.

That's also technically quite old design.

What kind PC you have there?

The PSU was bought around 5 years ago and has been used since in a few builds.

PC is i5 7500k /Corsair DDR4 16GB / GTX 1080TI

GTX1080 Tis can be rather serious power hog especially when overclocked.

And neither is CPU likely anymore that frugal with likely some overvolts.

But with luxury graphics card in there top quality PSU like Seasonic Focus Plus shouldn't be too costly.

(while that Silverstone was mediocre design already in 2011)

The CPU will not use more than 150w probably, the GPU will max out at 350w, thats 500w total. Are you saying that I should get a bigger PSU?

+50W for rest of the parts for rough estimate of absolute max peak draw.

850W is enough, but that Silverstone just never was top level PSU in the first place.

If it's noisy, then it's not going to be cooling the PSU effectively either - and is liable to seize up.

PSU's are really user repairable sadly.

If you have a spare fan the right size (usually 140mm I think) you could try swapping it first, and upgrade if not happy.

If you open the PSU, make sure to be aware of charged capacitor risks. Best to unplug the PSU from the wall while running so they discharge.
