Noisy PSU From Shuttle SZ77R5

Hi all,

Today my SZ77R5 arrived after reading about the machine on this forum.

I very much like silent computers and moved from a silent mATX one (AX750 PSU and all fans undervolted) to this smaller version.

I did expect it to be louder but the noise from the PSU seems to be more than I was expecting after reading all your views.

I want to find out if mine is normal or if I am just overly sensitive.

When comparing the stock 92mm ICE fan, I can't hear the 92mm fan at all, all I can hear is the PSU, I can easily hear it from 2 metres away. I have unplugged the 92mm to check where the noise is coming from and it is definitely the PSU.

Could anyone comment with a SZ68R5 or a SZ77R5 if this PSU is actually quite noisy?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

SZ77R5 fans and noise

I have one too and the ps is noisy. I have noticed that the fans are different from the SZ77R5 reviewed in this forum. The processor fan in mine spins at 3900 minimum - twice that in the review. The ps fan cannot be controlled from the mobo - the one in the review could. What mods are you considering?

I bought the 500W PC63J for my modified G2 case, and the PSU seems relatively quiet although I am only running a Core i3 2100 and an overclocked HD5850 1GB.

I used the PC63J to power a 1055t and GTX570 in a Lian Li V354 which isn't great for cooling (though no doubt better than a Shuttle), I don't even remember hearing the thing.
