Hello, asking on behalf of my brother here. His phone has slowly lost it's ability to store SMS messages. Right now it can hold just 8 in total (between the sent and inbox folders), I think it should be 100 normally? Apparently, it has slowly gone down.

There are none in drafts or any other obvious place taking up the space, but it seems like there might be messages held in some obscure "recycling bin" type location which is reducing it's useful capacity.

Anyone have any idea how to get the space back? The phone has a 2Gb card too and quite a few things on it, but I don't think this effects SMS storage.

All the storage is shared, find out the amount of free memory the phone has from the settings menu

All I can find on available memory is under 'Apps' in the menu which tells me:

Memory card: 453Mb
Games: 0.0Kb
Collection: 340Kb

Nothing under the settings menu, where it should be tbh. Checked everything in all the menus to no avail except that above. Have to say it's not a user freindly phone :(

EDIT: Eventually found it, here is what it says under "Phone memory"

Free memory: 5.0Kb
Gallery: 6.7Mb
Messaging: 44.5Kb
Applications: 343Kb
Bookmarks: 5.5Kb

Free mem seems quite low? Any idea what needs to be deleted to free up space? Can items be moved from internal memory to the card (which appearsto have a lot free still).

Free memory is very low, 5k is virtually nothing, you'd probably want a minimum of 100 times that to be useful.

The issue looks to be the gallery (photos, videos etc) which should easily move to the memory card.

Have a look under your storage options - most the phones I have had (unfortunately not this one so I can't give you direct advice) allow you to say that certain things can be saved to the memory card, like photos and video for example, freeing up the internal memory for your texts.

Go to other message settings in the messaging menu and ensure that "Mass Memory/Memory Card" is selected for the storage of all messages rather than "Phone Memory" It should then copy all messages over to the memory card and free up space on the inbuilt memory.

There you go! Knew it could be done - Well done that man!

What We've done is connect the phone to the PC and use that to access the files. Have moved a few Mb worth onto the memory card so hopefully this does the trick (now ~3Mb free out of ~8Mb total). Cheers :)
