Nokia Maps released with smooth HTML5 and iOS/Droid browser support

Not an app hence a fresh thread but this is quite good, it allows you to download maps to the phone as well for offline usage and all done via the browser. It has some nice features like nearby things to find, directional navigation and some other bits.

Worth keeping bookmarked TBH, no multitouch support yet on Droids but I imagine it will get updated.

If data allowance is an issue you could just connect to wifi, donwload the local map to browse offline instead, it seems to work easily enough

HTML5 is its selling point yeah, seems to be smooth on the majority of compatible devices.
