Hi there, any chance anyone can shed any light as to why am having trouble installing themes on my new phone?

It says certificate error, contact the application supplier.

Thanks in advance,

After doing some research I found this:

http://www.mobile9.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=37281

So it appears that themes that you download you have to spend like 2 hours going through a guide just to put a theme on your phone, and you can use this program to do it:

http://www.gosymbian.com/SSIS_download.html

But I don't get why they have made it so difficult to update your phone with a theme?

And to top it all off you have to sign up to a website to do all of this and the website wont sign me up with my ntlworld.com email for some reason and therfore I cant even do what the guide is asking me to do. This is the website you have to sign up to:

https://www.symbiansigned.com/app/page

Really dont understand why you have to get your themes signed & certified by some company, whats the point in that?

Is there not a website out there that already has themes that are signed and certified by Symbian? Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance,

You can't sign stuff yourself - as of about a week ago, that guide became fairly redundant. SymbianSigned now require that you have a PublisherID before they'll even sign an app for your own use now, so they've basically blocked the loophole that had been used before. Found this out this morning when trying to get RotateMe signed - got my N95 8Gb in the post this morning!

Ok I eventually managed to sign up to the website: https://www.symbiansigned.com and then I managed to install the program "Symbian Developer Certificate Request" and then I managed to create my ".csr" file and upload it to the website, but I got an email back saying:

Dear [email protected], Your application (sexy-10-22610.sis) signing failed. We apologise inconvenient.

And I dont understand why it failed? So now I am at a dead end and I've spent the last 5 hours trying to do this.

How did you even get that far? I created the csr file, but there isn't even a chance of uploading it to the site - just get this message when I click 'request':

Your request has failed. Reason:
- Developer Certificates will be ENABLED for users who have a Publisher ID ONLY. (during GMT office hours)
- ONLY if you used a Publisher ID to create a .csr file with the DevCertCreate tool will you be able to use Open Signed Offline to create a Developer Certificate.
- Developer Certificates are currently DISABLED for users without a Publisher ID. Users who DO NOT have a Publisher ID CANNOT request Developer Certificates or use Open Signed Offline.
- Open Signed Online and Offline for users without a Publisher ID will NOT be available temporarily, an update will be provided during Week beginning 25th Feb
- If you have recently obtained a Publisher ID and are unable to create a Developer Certificate using Open Signed Offline please request support through the Symbian Signed forum on the Symbian Developer Network

As I said in the previous post, the PublisherID requirement is a recent introduction (last couple of weeks), and the cost of one of those is $200/year. Not really practical!

Well why is there all these websites that have themes specifically for my phone, Nokia N95 8GB, I don't understand, I've got probably one of the most advanced smart phones on the market today that can do just about everything, but you cant install themes on it? This seems dodgy to me.

As I said, they only changed the rules a week or two ago. Websites aren't going to go offline overnight as a result. Read the forums on SymbianSigned - most people are very hacked off at the moment.

I can't quite understand why themes have to be signed anyway...

Hi again, I've been thinking about this since yesterday and all I can think is that its a money making scheme, because if every company that brings out themes/music/pictures for these types of phones with symbian on them has to pay to get their software signed then I guess symbian are going to make allot of money.

Just seems daft to me.

For now I guess I'll just have to copy pictures over from the PC and atleast I can change the wallpaper on the main screen.

Thanks for your help.

The way i understand it the signing is to stop piracy and people creating freeware apps with no kind of checking or authority governing them... Its annoying as hell as its always caused me a problem, i had most my stuff signed and working then updated to unbranded firmware to use some new software and now most my stuff doesn't work!

So signing - nice idea on paper, but not really practical the way they've implemented it!

Anyone got any more info on what's going to happen now? Or are we not gonna be able to use freeware (unsigned) apps ever again or be able to sign stuff ourselves ever again? :(
