Hello!
With my router there is a fault caused by pppoe that could be bypassed if I could set pppoe in the modem.
I don‘t believe there is a modem. The ONT simply turns the optical data signals into the same data signals over copper. Your router attaches it’s WAN interface to your ISP through that copper connection and PPPoE is the authentication protocol that lets your ISP know where your traffic comes from and where it needs to be sent back to.

Could you please share the ‘fault’ in the PPPoE you believe can be resolved and maybe it will be possible to find a way to do what you want?

The fault is just specific to my netgear router. With pppoe enabled a function in qos doesn't work as it should , I could bypass the problem by using a second router or setting pppoe in a modem, but as you all say, the ONT is not a modem and has no configuration. Netgear are aware of the issue and the next release of firmware will fix it, so I will wait.
