Behind you... Naked!
My Monster/Nokia Purity headphones has a small and irritating issue.

Sometimes, the sound goes mono.

There is clearly a short in there, and its quite annoying, especially for headphones that cost me £350

The snag is that they are out of warranty.

So, I will be happy to have a go at repairing them myself, its going to be a simple enough job, however, the only thing that is stopping me, is having to actually seperate the headphone cups themselves.

Its a single cable to the left, and then a thinner pair, goes along the headband, to the right.

The phones fold up, and its this, that has caused the problem... I say this because I also have Tinchy Strider phones and they have twice developed that very same issue ( although pair No3 are so far ok )

I dont even mind having wires going to each headphone cup, but I am terrified of wrecking them.

So, 2 parts to this then.

1 - Is there anywhere that will repair them for me, and of course offer a warranty on the repair?

2 - If I have a go... How do I break open the cup without breaking it?

You spent £350 on headphones made by Monster Cable? And then admitted to it? My god...

I'd put it down as experience, then buy some better ones for £50.

I have to LOL

I dont want to , but Im gonna!

Ok, ok ok... Whatever... They sound incredible, and they are the best quality headphones that I have ever owned.

You are free to argue whether I can get better or not, and sure, you can yes, but they are the bet I have in my collection.

That said...

I got tinchy striders as well, and while they are nowhere near the best, for £60 they are fantastic, and I actually like the sound thet they produce... Perhaps the bass could be a bit stronger and the high end is definitely lacking, but overall, I love them.

Then again, SONY MDV-150 is another one that I cannot recommend enough.
Those little buggers are tight as hell at first, but once they have worn in after a week or so's use, they are great. And they only cost a tenner... I have seen them for £20 and around that, but still... at that price, they are amazing!

So, yeah, at £350, those Nokia could be a bit disappointing but there we go.

Will I ever pay this much gain for such buggers? Stuff that no, but am I glad I got them? Well, apart from the fault they have developed, sure, I love them, and, like I said, the Tinchy ones also fold, and the tinchy ones also developed the same issue... Its just that the tinchy ones I took back and got them replaced and now they also have a 3 year warranty.

So, anyway, stop taking the mickey and grow up or Im going to tell my mum. LOL

But taking the mickey felt so good! :p

Good luck getting them fixed. I don't think you'll get much in the way of help here though as anyone who knows how to fix them probably owns a pair and they'd have to admit to it. :D

especially for headphones that cost me £350

First off are you insane? £350 on a pair of crappy headphones ...

1 -Yes most likely there will be a place that can repair them , typically DJ type shops do audio repair or try richer sounds.

2- just dont do it, I speak from pure experience that once YOU have taken it apart not only more will go wrong but have you tried putting them back together? no? well I can tell you its NOT WORTH IT.

Just a thought but why dont you just ditch them , write it off as a stupid expensive mistake and as others have said spend £50 on some decent ones (Probably around the same cost as getting yours repaired which then have a greater chance of doing the same thing in the future)

Why are they crappy?

I have heard few headphones in my time and I have to say that these are among the best that I have heard.

Sure, I know you can get better and bugger me, even hours after I bought these, I found them half the price and now even sub-£100 but I got them and thats done, no going back, but in the end, I love the sound, its perfect for me ( given that I also wear hearing aids ).

As for my other main set, the tinchy striders, these are certainly not the best set I accept, however, when I went to replace them the second time, I compared them to every other set in the shop, and they were by far the best in the price range, and I was willing to go up to £100 at the time.

So again, those are great phones and a sound I absolutely love as I feel comfortable to listen through those without my hearing aids in.

But the Nokia Purity phones are absolutely gorgeous sounding to me. I understand that they are crap, but I just dont understand how people can say such a silly thing, when they are so crystal clear.

As for the dammage, I have had them for some years, and I have 3 kids that play with them... Its only a matter of time for them to break and the one thing they broke on, is the same thing that every other headset will suffer from if they fold.

So again, why or how can you say they are crap?

Ok maybe crappy was not the right word but still I would expect £350 headphones to stand the test of time especially when being designed to fold up.

Anyway instead of focusing on that one point, try DJ shops.
