Got a friend who runs his own business and 10+ years ago he got someone to do the website, but the domain is registered to this individual. The website is clearly related to his business and he pays the bills, but he indicated that the person in question isn't contactable. He's got no details and wants to get the domain transfer to it's rightful owner. Any advice. (Sorry I do lots of things in IT, but website design or registrations isn't one of them..).

Plan is to move him to cobweb for email hosting and then he wants to look at moving the website and so forth.

rwracing.co.uk is the company.

Nominet can forcefully retrieve a domain back, i've experienced it when a customer was getting frustrated with our lack of help (Boss' orders...)

Next thing, we had an email from Nominet saying transfer it within 7 days, or we'll do it for you.

I signed up to moonfruit and this random company called gandi had my domain in France.

After about a week, I gave up. I contacted my new hosting provider. And told them I cannot get my domain released. As I needed them to host it.

Then they gave me nominet's details.

It cost around £15 iirc As soon as I hit send payment, I got around 10 emails.

All from Moonfruit nominet,vidahost,nominet.

It can be done for free, but I gave up.

Ok will see how we go. Email is the prime change, but may relocate the website too.

Will get registration details sorted first.

The issue is that the domain is in this guy's name so Nominet can't start giving domains to other people - they're not a court - so it gets tricky.

If they can't prove to Nominet that this guy has deliberately not put the domain in their name, they need to take this up with the legal system if the person who registered the domain won't give it up, then go to Nominet.
