just built this pc this weekend

q6600 with thermaltake typhoon cooler at 43 degrees
evga 650i ultra
500gb seagate drive
7800 gtx oc
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4
500w enermax liberty psu
only secondhand bits are my old psu and gpu

worked fine all weekend got up this morning and it had turned itself off during the night and now nothing, fan spins up but nothing on the monitor no bios screen just the no input message , checked all cables they're fine ,any ideas ?
one problem i have is that the speaker on my case has a different connector to the mobo so i need to rob another speaker from somewhere when i get home again and see if there are any beeps

Reset CMOS
Boot with one stick of RAM in slot 3
Set RAM voltage manually (Most NV 6 series Mobos have default RAM Voltage at 1.8 which is no good if yours needs 2.-V/ 2.1V/ 2.2V.

Try reseating any expansion cards too (GFX, Sound Etc) :)

will try the ram thing when i get home didnt realise that , memory was supposed to be my next question anyway before it died , couldnt understand why i was only getting a vista score of 5 on my memory

Disconnect the power cable, wait 20 seconds, reconnect and try again. Try the simple cures first.

8pin atx 12v

just reading the motherboard manual online and it says strongly recommended to use a 8 pin connector but a 4 pin one can be used , one problem on the picture its a 8 pin but on my board its a 4 ?? is it possible i have an earlier revision ? i cant find anything about this board with a 4 pin, even reviews of pre production ones seem to have 8 pin  i know this connector is for the cpu and wonder if it needs it for the quad

just spent about 4 hours trying every different scenario possible and the only way i could get it to work was to take it out all out of the case  when i put it back in it didnt work again , but if resting in the case without screws it works ffs this is ridiculous lol, i put the screws in one by one until it didnt boot then left out that screw, put the other 8 in and now it works
There is nothing near it under it or around it absolutely no reason why putting that screw in shorts out the board but it does go figure

Hi,

Could be a short or alternatively it could be the extra screw is causing a flex in the board preventing it working.

What is the screw adjacent to ?

I have a big typhoon also and if I tighten it up too much on a Abit FP-IN9 nividia 650i SLI then it won't boot !

top left screw above cpu
i reckon it must be a flex in the board cant be anything else i cant see anything shorting it, sort of odd though that you say you have a similar problem and my rogue screw is near the cpu
