Hi all :)

I'm about to buy a 8800 gts 512 mb card and wondering the one I'm going to buy is a non branded model does this have any downsides at all over the branded models?

Thanks :)

Usually you will have a better warranty and more cables and stuff thrown in with the branded cards, Sometimes higher clocks.

They are all the same card at the end or the day, and will all overclock the same too.

That's the thing on this site it doesn't say anything about warranty?

No by law you have 2 years minimum warranty no such thing as a 1 year warranty it's a european law ocuk may offer the 1 year but the manu must give another year then.

Who keeps their gfx card for longer than a year

My current GFX card struggles to play modern games all maxed out yet it has a ridicules 5year warranty, its less than a year old.

just as Ulfhedjinn says, who cares!! you just dont need more than a year warranty imo

I've still got a 9800pro in one of my rigs - does that count? - and in 2 months it'll be top of the range again, wonder if I can sell it for £400 with a bit of deceptive advertising... (it works for nVidia, it can work for you! ;))

On a more serious note I do have issues with the inferred statement that the card is only reliable for a year - that really would be p***-poor! Stand by your card darn it and stop sounding so cheap OcUK!

I guess 1 year is cutting it a little fine then, say 2 years is ideal. At least if it does go after that its value will be pretty low like any dated pc component :)

oh really so selling on a card with 0 warranty gets a good price does it ? it is daft but plenty of warranty commands a higher resale price for most components
i wouldn't buy a card with no warranty left i know that

Normally go with the cheapest unless you have read that a certain brand have been overclocking like mad. Also check out the brand bundles as some come with decent games.

It's nice to save some money by going OEM but if a branded card comes with a good game that you may actually buy it could be worth paying the extra.

Oh of course there is the sticker! :o

I’m talking specifically about gfx cards, if the warranty is out on your GFX card its probably well on its way to being 2 years old and thus worth diddly squat on the second hand market regardless of warranty.

Not if you buy the newest best card but the GTS/GT aren't like the GTX when that came out, that was still the best card for over a year but that an exception.

Really? how old is the X1800XT 256MB? because I am selling one for a friend and have seen a few go for £50-£77 at auction.

Ok worst case scenario, your buddies X1800XT doesn’t have warranty anymore so it sells for 50 quid instead of 65quid if it did.

I kept my X1900XT for a year :D

Longest time I've ever kept a card.

I think people have forgot how long the X1900 had it's run.

I would get say for an 8800gt today with a 2 year warranty £140 max i could get £190 for my bfg it's not about selling when they are outdated it's about selling in a few months or whenever the new card is out.In general i think you make less of a loss buying evga and bfg than any other card oem or what ever brand.
I don't know why but when people see 10 year or lifetime warranty it opens their wallet. You have to bear in mind you could keep an evga for 2 years and rma it and get a new model card because the card you have is long gone.
