Hello all,
Been asked to look at a charities systems after a severe powercut / surge.
Got a bit of a problem - I have several old 2TB SATA drives which have VMWare ESXi 5.1 Filesystem on them with data (basically taken from an old system) which the system has failed (motherboard died). The were just acting as SATA drives (no RAID) and would like to move them to a new server (HP Proliant ML350 G5 (E200i and P400) available but only one free SATA port on the motherboard. So I bought some Icy Box caddies and stuck them in.
Problem being is ESXi can't see them nor can the system in the BIOS unless they are configured by the P400 - but not sure if that would destroy the data on the disks (and have each one acting as RAID 0 for now) but would that destroy the data?? I know the latest HP cards allow passthrough which allows the OS's to see the drives individually but the P400 does not seem to support this option as the drives are not visible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated or if anyone has any ideas? I'ld prefer not to manually transfer data using the one SATA port on the motherboard - I have a budget if anyone can think of an expander card that would work?
