Just a quick heads up on this one - but as from the end of this month if you are caught driving without wearing a seat belt or driving a car with a misrepresnted number plate (ie non standard font / layout etc) then expect to have a Non-endorsable fixed penalty ticket for £60 rather than the standard £30 ones.

The way I see it there is no need to not wear a seatbelt so the fine could be 250 and still be justified

In most cases, yes. But I'd be ****ed if I was stopped at traffic lights, a back seat passenger pops off their seatbelt to grab something from the boot, and that's when a copper turns up.

As long as they are an adult, you are not responsible for them as a driver and they can be issued the FPN as a passenger.

Fair enough, I thought the responsibility was still with the driver. Researching it shows the cut-off age is over 14.
Even so, I would still consider it an unfair punishment if the vehicle is stationary. Especially as it might be me who had asked someone to grab me something from the boot e.g. water bottle.

Wonder where responsibility lies with passengers lacking capacity (e.g. mentally disabled)?
