I've just upgraded my main pc and my Dad heard about it so he wants to reuse some of my old parts and build him a SFF pc for him to use at home.

All he's going to be doing with it is using office software, Win XP, remote connecting to work and probably browsing the internet.

I'm completely clueless with regards to SFF and suitable mobo's etc so I need some help please.

The parts I've got available are:

Intel 3.2 Prescott, ATI X1950 Pro AGP, Zalman 460W PSU, Netgear Wireless Network Card, DVD Rewriter, Zalman CNPS7000B-CU CPU Cooler, 2GB OcUK DDR PC3200

So basically I just need a cheapo (but reliable) mobo that's compatible with the above i.e. AGP and Prescott, a SFF case that's cool and quiet (will my old HSF fit?) and a HDD.

OcUK don't seem to sell SFF cases? I could go with one of the barebones systems but I need a AGP mobo. Any recommendations?

That Prescott, is it a P4 Socket 478 or T (A.K.A. LGA775)? See here if it helps ;)

SFF case here. Now once above is figured out all you need is a mATX mobo.

EDIT: Can also use CPU-Z (here).

Just taken the hsf off of it and cleaned it up, its a socket 478,

Prescott 3.2 SL7PN Costa Rica.

None on OcUK I see, so maybe link to a suitable model and I'll have a search elsewhere for it. Will be getting the monitor and Antec Cube from here anyway and the hdd, probably just a 80gb will be more than enough.

Yeah I've been searching the last couple of hours, found the one you linked and also:

Gigabyte GA-8I865GME Intel 865G

MicroStar MSI PM8M-V Via P4M800

They all look basically the same, so I guess it doesn't really matter which one?

It's between the Gigabyte and ASRock I guess.

I went for the Asrock in the end as it was almost £10 cheaper. I was very dubious about that little 300W PSU in the Antec Cube powering the ATI X1950 Pro 512, but lo and behold, it did.

Unfortunately my Zalman HSF didn't fit, even if I cut off most of the copper fins the 120mm fan wouldn't have fit on its own :)

Went down my local computer store and had a rummage around in their bargain bin and dug out a dirty old intel factory s478 hsf and they let me have for £2. Job's a good 'un!

Put everything together and took it round my Dad's and he now happily on a 3 day week and doing some work from home.

Glad I could actually find some decent use for my old parts for a change instead of them sitting in the bottom of my wardrobe.
