read loads of stuff on here but mist seems to be re mouse for gaming

my Logitech mx700 has served me well but is now on its last legs

I need a good mouse mainly for web use

needs to be

cordless
comfortable
rechargeable
good battery life

cost not really a consideration as a mouse can't exactly break the bank ( I await someone proving otherwise ;) )

looks nice , would prefer rechargeable but if the battery life is as good as that says then it may not be an issue

Bought my rechargable laser mouse from a compeditor for £15. Set of alakalines (too lazy to charge supplied nimh) going 3mnths now and still looking good. very comfortable and me thinks its got 7 buttons (nice 4 previous page, zoom in, etc.)

Correction 5 buttons

For Desktop general use - MX1000.
Use the USB -> PS2 convertor if there are problems.

Battery life = About a week.
Or 2~3 days continual usage (Depending on how much you sleep)
Very comfortable but fairly heavy.
Good for bigger hands too (tend to 'clutch' the mouse less)

For the best tracking available... And same shell as the MX700, then the G7 is a joy to use.
Same laser as the MX1000, better engine behind it. Definitely noticable.
Also the best range on a mouse I know.
2 x batteries which charge via USB so the battery never runs out.
(Say 3/4 of a day constant use for the one battery)
Only thing is - No 'forward' button but very light.

I have used the MX510, MX700, MX1000 and G7.
The G7 is the best mouse out of them all no question.
But if on a budget, the MX1000 is fantastic for normal windows use - Also better buttons for Windows.

So - MX1000 I would say. :)
(Or G7 if you do a lot of precision work and can do without a forward button)

The G7 is a great mouse in terms of comfort although the swapping battery packs may irritate you, it is literally a job of 2 seconds though and you can set up the wheel to be forwards and back buttons because it tilts.

As Captain Fizz mentions the MX1000 has the better battery life and is good for larger hands however there are maybe an excessive number of buttons and subjectively it isn't as comfortable as the G7.
