Non Gaming Multi Display Help.

Good Morning OCUK,

A friend of mine is interested in setting up a multi display configuration consisting of 3 screens. This is a brand new build & I was wondering what sort of hardware he would need graphics wise to achieve this?

Bear in mind he has no intention of gaming & would rather run different applications over each screen, for example Powerpoint, Vegas & Web browsing simultaenously. I've done this before but with gaming in mind therefore have little idea how well the lower end 400 series cope with it?

Is it a case of a single GPU running the 3 displays with a bit of management software of is there a need for multiple GPU's on HD outputs. It would be great to hear the experiences of someone that has done similar & what results they got!

Hi there,

With three screens for applications (not games) you can certainly get away with a single graphics card - so long as you use one of the AMD cards that supports three outputs and eyefinity technology. Unfortunately, all Nvidia cards (except the expensive and power hungry dual GPU models) can only output to two screens each.

May I ask what make and model monitors will be used?

This graphics card is a good option, as it has three digital outputs, supports eyefinity/three display outputs and doesn't draw much power (66W maximum).

For none gaming u could just run any 2 gpus
Don't have to be in Sli/crossfire to work

Could try to pick up 2 cheap 2nd hand ones

If you dont mind having a vga connection on one of the monitors you can you the 5450, it has 1x DVI, 1 x HDMI and 1 x VGA, so as long as you have at least 1 DVI or HDMI monitor you should be ok with that - its about £40
