Does anyone know if UK Apple stores are able to order Macbooks with non-standard keyboard layout (e.g. Russian keys)? I know it is possible if ordering online through Apple chat but wondered if possible to place in-store orders.

Has to be with the online chat store - the in store order system only has UK inventory

What if you want upgraded storage or faster CPU/more RAM, can they be ordered in store or only the base models?

I was told by an employee than BTO models can only be done online. You can find some BTO machines in stores, typically maxed out ones.

Does anywhere in UK do BTO macbooks? Unfortunately Apple don't ship to Jersey and I'd prefer not to pay a whopping amount of VAT when it's not chargeable here so I'm looking for alternatives - John Lewis would be ideal with its 3 year warranty but they only do base models. As for the keyboard issue it may be resolved by a silicone kb skin I suppose.

We have a scheme at work where we can buy Apple stuff through Stormfront and I asked whether I could get a BTO iMac. I was told that yes, it's possible so it could be worth giving them a shout.

Could do but then it will be goods delivered to the UK so VAT applies. Would possibly work if I deliver to the store, immediately get a refund and then buy from the store as the store could then give me a VAT receipt for claiming back at the airport. Can you refund online Apple purchases in store?

Yes you can.
