so this seems to happen roughly once or twice a week on windows 8.1

i've done a lot of reading up on it but can't seem to find a definitive solution.. suggestions have ranged from killer NIC (don't have that), lan driver (updated to latest version), some other driver - which i can't figure out for the life of me.

is there anything i can do to find out what driver is causing this issue?

cheers.

You could possibly identify the process or processes i think. Just goto Task Manager, Details, right click to add columns for NP Pool. Might give a better clue to track it down.

Otherwise I'd try trawling through the windows logs.

no, it's definitely driver related (i've already checked task manager, hence using rammap).

windows logs show absolutely nout either.

If you are sure its a driver then make a restore point and then go through the device manager disabling one driver at a time until the memory gets freed up.

Only other thing I can suggest would be to try disabling hardware/drivers/devices one by one and giving it a go for a bit to see if it makes any difference.

that's the thing though, this doesn't happen religiously or frequently enough for that to really be a viable testing method. it is totally random (can happen when in a game, when surfing the web, watching a movie, when pc is totally idle).

at the moment, since posting the OP, it hasn't gone bananas and i've used my pc every day. no doubt now i've said that it'll have a hissy fit in the next few hours :p

seems i've whittled it down to being something intel related, namely iastorv.sys. updated everything intel so fingers crossed it's gone for good now!

yup.

i ran some driver update thingy which said a lot of intel stuff (usb, etc) were outdated, so just did the entire lot to be sure.
