hi guys, i'm still in the process of trying to work out what i need to buy to get this media centre working, had the case for 2 months now with no components.

I've obtained a pentium 4 and a big old flower cooler until i have saved the pennies to get a core 2 duo.

Now i'm after a motherboard that preferably has onboard graphics for the moment, that will fit both these processors, now the thing that has confused me is that the chip i have obtained has no pins in the bottom? I take it that this is correct, i've always had AMD chips so was not aware that intel were so different.

needs to be relatively inexpensive, anything up to 40 quid with onboard 5.1/7.1.

Please help.

edit... oh yeah needs to be a micro-ATX

Err, I'm pretty sure that you should have pins on the bottom of your CPU, at least both socket 775 and socket 478 (the old type, check you don't have it) do. Have they perhaps been snapped off?

The Abit Fatal1ty F-190HD is probably the best mATX motherboard but it is currently out of stock and costs around £70. Failing that the Asrock Conroe945G-DVI is your best bet at around £50. Do check on the CPU though, post the model number if you are unsure and perhaps even a picture of the bottom of the CPU so that someone can say if it is ok. :)

well the pins definatly don't look like they have been snapped off, haven't got a camera around at the moment.

all it says is:
Intel '04
pentium 4
2.93 Ghz /IM/566/04A
sl85v china
5452b543 (that b could be a 8 though!)
