Hi so i had a decent PC around a year ago but sold for some stupid reason and now i want to get a new one. Although i can build a PC just fine im lacking in the hardware knowledge so came here for some advice.

I would normally rely on a friend for this but i think hes fed up of me asking questions, so this is my build so far but a few things i am wondering. If i wanted to make the build quieter what fans should i go for (2 for radiator and 3 for case in/out). Also will the PSU have enough juice for this setup or should i up it for future possible SLI etc.

Any other suggestions are welcome as you can tell im not exactly savvy with hardware choices all that much! Thanks :D

(I did try to use the cart extention but could get it to work sorry)

Hi so i looked around a bit and saw a post you had put up for a £1500+ spec so i moved some things around and could use a hand finishing up?

Basically looking at what memory to go for if this build doesnt look too bad so far?

Also is there a significant advantage to prebuilt water coolers over fancooler? Either performance or acustic?

Thanks for your help means a lot :D

You also want a big air cooler if you are heading for silence, or as close to as you can - something like Noctua NH-D15, Cryorig, Alpenhofn Mount Doom etc as these will be quieter than AIOs

AIO watercoolers can be quieter, easier to install and also are good for saving space as air coolers require large heatsinks. I'd recommend going for an air cooler like the Noctua NH-D15 personally. For an air cooler, it is very easy to install and provides performance in the range of AIO water coolers for a better value price tag. It also comes with silence optimised fans. Water coolers still need fans and I've heard the pumps can be noisy.

Might I ask what sort of performance this PC would require? Is it for gaming, or multi-threaded tasks? The gain in performance from a 4790k/DDR3 to an i7 5820k/DDR4 is very minimal in games. In just another thread someone is downgrading (getting an i5 instead) from an i7 as they don't need that much performance. 4 cores is plenty enough and the savings from Z97 can be put into a better graphics card. Especially as the 980ti releases next week and there's new AMD cards in a few weeks. Normal 980 price will drop to accommodate for the 980ti/R9 3XX cards. I will say that the 5820K/X99 is good for more PCIe lanes if you want to run a PCIe SSD, which can be a bit pricey. But one might as well take advantage of the ridiculous performance and get an M.2 SSD if they go X99.

I'm also very surprised at the price of the 4790k motherboard bundles. They were a lot more just the other day! Looks like its probably keeping in line with this weeks deal on the standalone 4790k processor. That Gigabyte Black bundle is the best right now!

TLDR 4790k+GTX980ti>5820k+GTX980

@mahius
Thanks for your reply the system will be mainly for gaiming but will include some video editing and streaming so thought the newer i7 would help with this.
I find all the hardware choices confusing as hell tbh but i was just trying to make a build around the £1800 mark (inc VAT) as i have a £2k budget but that includes my monitor which ive already decided on the BenQ XL2411Z.

If you could explain one thing to me as i keep getting linked the Supernova PSU just wondering if it worth spending the little more for a "Platinum" rated PSU like the corsair one i linked.
Thanks for your time :D

That Corsair is made by Seasonic, so it is decent, but look at the price and you can see its priced higher than many equally good (Superflower Leadex, EVGA G2 etc) 850W PSUs.

Also as X99 uses more power than a Z97 setup (especially if you ever go SLI and overclock both CPU+GFX cards) you would be better of with a 1Kw PSU.

That one is 1000W, platinum and has the eco fan mode (so passive at low load/temperatures).
