I borrowed my mate's Sony DCR TRV14E mini-dv camcorder for my holiday to Orlando. He didn't give me a manual or any cables and being new to all this malarky I now need to know how to get the movies onto my pc. What cable do I need to connect it (firewire?) and what software would I need to record and save it? I want to be able to edit it (eventually) and add music.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You *will* need a firewire cable to connect the camcorder to your PC - making sure your PC has firewire input, of course....

Then, to capture and edit your footage you will need software such as XP's own movie maker or... for something more advanced Pinnacle Studio software.

As above, a firewire cable is the best way to capture, for a newbie I'd go with Windows Movie Maker but if you want to do a bit more I'd recommend Adobe Premiere Elements over Pinnacle though, you can get a 30 day trial of Elements, which is more than enough time to edit your footage :)

Cheers guys, got myself a firewire cable and managed to save it to the pc. Just gotta spend some time editing it now!
