noob dual boot query

I have vista installed on one partition, and this is how my laptop boots at the moment straight into the factory installed vista, I have a d: partition I wish to put XP on for the sakes of dual booting and having a play in XP (if games run faster mainly)

Is it as simple as booting up the XP cd installing to d: and job done?

Will booting the laptop with both OS's installed then give me the option on boot to choose which way to boot?

just read that thread and just clicked that link to read next

halfway through that thread I thought I was scuppered with no vista DVD, hope this link smashes those worries!
