noob dual core question

Hey folks, was going to buy a new system around march but from what im reading vista is going to take a bit more time than that to bed in satisfactorily so im going to delay for 6 months or so.

My current setup is a amd64 3700+ with a x1950xt and 2gigs ram. I mostly play a very demanding flight sim (badly coded rather than graphically pretty) and every time I use fraps or a guncam the whole system stutters.

Soooooo would it be worthwhile (or even possible) to get a dual core (im currently thinking a socket 939 4200) and have one core running the game and the other dedicated to the guncam? Is that even how it works? I know you can prioritise different cores to different apps...

I really dont want to get a conroe just yet because id have to change ram, motherboard etc. and id be willing to pay £100 on a processor for 6 odd months.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Im currently addicted to wwiiol. Unfortunately this is horrifically demanding on my system and whilst I can play Oblivion/FEAR/CSS with most of the bells and whistles I have to play wwiiol at 800x600 to get an acceptable framerate because every damn thing under the sun is rendered - which is particularly frustrating when youre chasing an enemy fighter over a town where 20 tanks and 60 infantry may be duking it out. If you have a guncam and press the trigger at moments like that its an instant 2fps and warping straight into the ground.

*edit* question answered, looks like ill be shopping for a cheapo dual core.
