Noob fan question

£45 on fans is a bit crazy when you can get three half decent fans from Yate Loon for £9 and three for £6 as Tri-cools, which aren't that bad if you have them on Low. It's really only worth spending more on fans when they need to be on a heatsink where static pressure becomes important.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks its crazy.

Pretty much just downloading and uploading when im asleep. The mobo is a asus p5e not seen a seeting for multiple fan speeds but ill look again. if the 1 fan don't make a difference ill try out a fan controller or them tri cools.

I bought a CM 690 II Advanced case, which wasn't cheap, and had to replace all the fans cuz they were a bit rubbish and loud. Unfortunately I replaced them with Akasa Apaches which are also loud (they were running at 100%) and not the best fans airflow wise either (they not bad, but not great).

Ok got my Apache black fan today but it's a 4 pin connector and looks like I only have 1 4 pin connector on my board for the cpu. Do I need an adaptor or can I use the cpu header and set the speed to 100% in bios.

Hum tried that but can't seem to get it to go on (there's a part in the way) I will try it and report back. Alternatively can i use the CPU one and set it to 100% ?

Yes, thoes 4 pin on the Apache's have a 3 pin config on the connector unless they changed them, i had a couple and they did fit on the 3 pin motherboard headers.

Well defo can't get it to fit on the 3 pin. Installed my new nzxt sentry 2 fan controller and no 4 pin support for that either. Can adaptors be got for 4 pin to 3 pin connectors? Also my 2 rad fans seem to be only 2 pin connectors So can you get 2 pin to 3 pin connectors?

Not sure then, mine came with this 4 pin connection and if u look at the guides on it u can see they are in a 3 pin layout so they should fit both 3 and 4 pin motherboard headers.

Edit: What motherboard do u have ?

Asus p5e mobo. That 4 pin on the fan is defo not going into the 3 pin on the mobo or fan controller.
just searched around and can only find molex adaptors. And nothing for the 2 pin radiator fans i have.

If u do have the same connector as in my prvious pic then they will fit on these headers.

They will only fit one way round and in one position.

I have been mulling the same issu for ages. The standard fans are just too loud.

My research is leaning towards the Fractal Design fans. According to some website they push some good air and are some of the quietest on the market. I just hate the white fans.
