Noob for wireless help?

Hi,

Just bought my laptop this morning and got everything running. Now I get a pop up telling me that my laptop has found 4 wireless points etc. Now If I can find there wireless modem or computer surely they can find my laptop so How do I get my laptop not to be picked up by them?
