hi,

spent hours trying to get this hvr-3000 tv card working on ubuntu 8.04 with no joy.

Can ubuntu 8.04 users recommend a pci freeview TV card that JUST WORKS. Especially Tv cards you are using, that work fully. If you followed a guide can you post a link to the guide for your chosen card?

I just wanna watch freeview lol

'just works' isn't that common for that type of device on Linux i'm afraid. Especially with thigns like that where the manufacturer churns out windows drivers and doesn't care/budget for anything else.

You'd have more luck searching for a particular chipset that is supported, and find a card using it, google should help you there.

cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig

dig about in the video device drivers pages, see which chipsets are supported (all the good and standards compliant ones are), then find a card using one of those chipsets and get it (having first googled for nightmares pertaining to it).
