Noob nas qns

hi there looking to build a nas for my media files also back up. Will i be able to access these files from any computer in my house and how fast. I have been looking at building my own with free nas or synology ds1812+ what are the main difrrences in performance etc

realistically a build your own will be superior, its just a question of how much effort you want to put in, ie buying it, setting up software, adjusting it etc. with a synology it is quick and painless really. Are you looking at that size of NAS or was that just an example? As at that size I would be quite keen to save a load of cash and build a nas myself.

I'm going to sound like a stuck record here but a HP Microserver running Xpenology is the way to go. Relatively cheap and straight forward to set up.

i was looking at 18tb space. how fast will it be acesing the files on diff computers
