Ok I'm noob to building pc's.

The budget is £1500 top end for everything down to the mouse-mat.

  1. I am primarily a Gamer but I am interested in video-editing/picture editing/CAD.
  2. £1500 is a fair whack to me so extra £100 on something for 1% isn't the right road, 20% maybe but not 1.

All help greatly appreciated and I'll put a pic or 2 up when I get it as a little token of my appreciation.
I've been reading for weeks on the subject but in honesty i've been going round in circles - i'm mentally ****ed off with it as I'm OCD perfectionist with everything I touch.

you have to be more specific on what you mean by top end of everything. this could mean a few things such as do you want the top end ivy bridge CPU or the Sandy Bridge or SB-E etc. £1500 is not enough for top end of everything ( by top end i assume you mean the best).

I said the top end of my budget is £1500, and everything is within that down to the mouse matt.

But as for being specific I am open to suggestions - I'll let the guys who know what they are doing and the enthusiasts hit me with a build idea.

I really don't know enough about the parts to make an informed choice and benchmarks are fairly different from site-to-site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Appreciated guys!

I'm just at a point where I can concede I know nothing but I'll be damned if I'm just going to pick random parts and hope for the best.

I am not fussed about the cost as long as it's below £1500 and it is good for the money.

I'm not too fussed about cases, keyboards, mice, monitors being mentioned as long as the main build takes into account how much will be left for those things.

When I said I'd have some fun it wasn't mean't in the "heres some random stuff" way:

Monitor Review: Latest generation of AMVA screens with a very low input lag and decent colour representation.
Case Review: Personally love the looks of this case but have a look @ the scores and decide.
CPU Cooler Review: Has been relaunched with a new fan but still has some good low temps.
PSU Review: Seasonic internals make it one of the best on the market nad can handle a 2nd 670 if needed.

That motherboard has the lastest in expansion interfaces: 2x thunderbolt ports as well as having a UK RMA service incase there are any problems.
CPU kind of speaks for itself. The best Gaming CPU out atm.
I have the X4 Keyboard and G400 mouse (well the old MX518 which was rebranded) and they are excellent.

That's good stuff. I'd spend the rest on a WindForce or DirectCU, and maybe some corsair ram. Dunno about the motheboard, but there are plenty around that will do a good job (Like the Z77X-UD3H, which also comes with the BoogieBug pad).

My selection :)

Thing is, you grab what you like among those builds (case, BD drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse, speakers, the more personal stuff...), there are many possibilities. Work it out into your budget, and we'll make sure it's all fine.

Bear in mind the budget restrictions, and that you cannot have 'everything'. It's got to be balanced somewhat.

I understand that even though this is a hard earned PC for me, it's not going to run the future UK space programme.
I also understand there may be compatibility issues but I will ensure this is not the case before purchasing.
Essentially I just need people with a better understanding of the parts than me to give me something to work with, pick n' mix from.

I could read up forever and still second guess myself into not deciding on a single part.

Keep the builds, advice, notes, info etc etc coming guys - greatly appreciated and credit will be given with a post of my finished pc etc etc.

It's rather simple :)

- GTX 670 / HD7970 (GTX670 wins mostly).
- 3570K.
- good Z77 motherboard (£100-£150).
- Low Profile 8GB RAM.
- CPU cooler (sweetspot is 4.2-4.4GHz overclock) (£25-£40).
- 128GB SSD (Samsung or M4, no point looking elsewhere).
- 600W+ PSU, good quality, preferably modular or semi-modular.
- good case (£80-£120).
- 24'' screen (£120-£150).
- OS 64 bit.
- Storage drive (1TB / 2TB).
- Optical drive (BluRay / DVD-RW).
- gaming mouse (£20-£50).
- gaming keyboard (£30-£50).
- speakers / headset, decent quality (£30-£60).

That should get you to £1,500 more or less. If you look at the builds they are rather similar in spec.

- Windforce / DirectCU are considered the best of the 670's for noise and cooling. They are also more popular, hence more expensive.
- Dont need fancy RAM. Generic 1600MHz ram will do. Samsung 30nm rams are quite nice, and on offer atm I believe. And make sure it's low profile (no huge heat spreaders).
- The CM StormTrooper is a big brute of a case, Very well kitted, very well designed and sturdy, looks are personal. Plus it's big enough to house any cooler you want (even the TS140). Other choices : Corsair Carbide 500R, Fractal R3, Obsidian 550D, Obsidian 650D, NZXT Phantom Enthusiast, Raven RV03. Any of these cases are worth your money.
- Cant go much wrong with corsair PSUs, XFX, Antec High Current Gamer. All Seasonic designs, or ChannelWell, Corsair made their name with them.
- For motherboard, you are spoilt for choice really. The Gigabyte series imo are the most attractive.
- Mouse and keyboard, it's entirely up to you. The G400 is a great all round mouse (successor to the MX518 which I still use), the X4 is the best value for money, not to mentioned back-lit.
- Dunno much about speakers, but the cheap 2.1 range is really quite nice (I have S-220's and they do the job for me).
- Big fan of Thermalright coolers, having one (MUX-120). Good balance between performance, low noise, build quality, and easy setup. Plus they come with good thermal paste (Chillfactor II or III). Also the Matterhorn Pure, the Coolermasters 212 evo and 612S, and a couple more worth considering.
- YOu only need to worry about pro / ultimate OS if you are gonna use over 16GB of memory. Or for office / network environment.

That's all I'll say. And that the 'this week only' offers will end next wednesday.

Olivier you just did what I was about to - legend mate.

I appreciate all the help from you guys and I invite others to do so as I am a day or 2 off buying as I will check for compatibility/negotiate on the price with the retailer.

Any questions you have for me to further narrow down possibilities etc let me know i'll be here for the next few hours.

+1 for doomspeed's build.
If you're gonna fork out 1.5k it's worth spending a little extra on a good screen as it's gonn be the thing you are staring at. Also, for peripherals it's worth going into a well know street retailer to try them out to see what you like before buying as preference is totally subjective with them. Will be better for you to be ordering a mouse, keyboard and headset you know you'll agree with.

Yeah. These things are as much about personal taste as anything else. I'd avoid Roccat though, they have shocking quality control.

For the screens, I'll add that it will eat a lot of your budget if you go fancy. You don't really need to spend a fortune on them (says the guy with two Dell IPS montors).

Not been able to get connected to the internet since I got back from work so just creating a shopping basket just now.

Any other Suggestions or Advice, Builds, Info etc etc will be greatly appreciated!

Once I have shopping list i'll let you's know!

Ok here's what I have guys - what you reckon I could or should swap/get-rid-of???

I'm £28 odd over budget and I'm missing a sound card (not essential I suppose, just not sure I'll get round to getting one, knowing me)

Remember - primarily a gamer, but with an interest in video editing/picture editing/CAD. I intend to overclock.
