Ok so this is the first system i am attempting to overclock. More out of interest than anything else. I have done a bit of reading and now understand a few of the relationships between various components that need to be considered, but am still finding it difficult to comprehend a overall configuration that will work with my hardware.

Here is what i know so far.
1)increasing the FSB will increase clock speed, but also HT link speed, and Memory speed, so these settings need to be adjusted beforehand to make sure they dont go over the optimum setting .
2)increasing multiplier alone will just increase clock speed, so no other changes are required.
3)At a certain level, voltage will need to be increased to keep the Overclock stable.
4)As a result of increasing voltage, extra cooling may be required.
5)Much testing is needed after each change.

Ok as you can see i have a basic level of understanding ;-)

I don't quite understand what role the HT Link plays and what effect changing its value will have. I have M4A785TD-EVO which says up to 5200MT/s. Can anyone explain this to me?

Also, how do you know when the voltage needs to be increased?

Finally, if i increased FSB, and adjusted memory setting ( I have four on mobo 400, 533, 667, 800), does I need to get it close to one of the above settings, or can it be anything and still work effectively?
