Right, here's my dilemma. My old pc is on it's last legs and i am looking to upgrade to a gaming one that let's me play in 3D.I have been looking at pre-built packages with a monitor and they seem quite expensive after adding decent headset,3D glasses, monitor, etc.My budget is around £1500 or so and i am basically looking for value for money.I would contemplate my own build but seeing as i have'nt attempted one before i am a little apprehensive.I was also looking at the HAF X 942 case as i like the look of it and for future upgrades. My old Packard Bell was from PC World so no overclock and little upgradeability plus my pci-e slot seems to have packed up on my mb so i am looking for something that will last me a while longer.Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to forums

Building one yourself is quite easy, theres a very good guide at the top of this page by greywolf which walks you through it, all you need is a medium size Phillips screwdriver and a bit of time and patience

This build below would suit you, wasnt 100% sure which case you wanted, included the HAF X which is nice and big, but there are smaller variants available too, has good quality monitor, good gfx card which supports 3d and the glasses set, based around the new i5 Sandybridge stuff which is best you can get at the moment, feel free to ask if you have any questions

Thats a good looking setup above tho I may look at a SDD for faster loading times on bootup, and the VAT is a right kick in the nuts ROFL,

Oh by the way Nvidia Vision is awesome I have it running my Pc and the games look fantastic even the old games look good, I'm playing Dawn Of War 2 all over again just to experiance it in 3D, same for Need For Speed, oh and Black Ops rofl

Also take a look at the samsung 2233 3D monitor, not sure on the price but you should get it for around £165 saves a bit there

You would be able to add a separate SSD for your boot drive but you would either go over budget or have to save some money elsewhere, the obvious first place would be the case, the smaller variants tend to cost less and you could put that money towards a SSD such as the 64gb Crucial, oh I didnt include mouse/kb etc but figured if you needed them you could add what you like in this regard

Its £205 here and it uses a lower resoultion, imo its worth the extra for the higher resolution

yea could be right for the extra money, tho it's always worth a look around as I've seen that monitor for £150-£200,

one thing you do have to remember tho the higher resolution will take more processing power and then if you turn 3D on that splits the image into two seperate images at 60mhz each picture, so even more processing power needed just a thought unless you go SLI to carry the 3D for example I'm running x2 geforce470GTX in SLI and when I play Lost Planet 2 with full detail without 3D on I'm hitting 70-80FPS when I turn 3D on thats down to 30-35FPS and thats running two graphics card in SLI, youre going to have the one card, so will you benefit from having the best resolution will you get the best from the games in 3D????

can you rip anything out from your currnt PC, IE DVD writer if you can that saves you the need to buy
Pioneer 24x Internal S19LBK DVD Rewriter including Labelflash SATA Retail £19.99
saving you £20 off the bat

Sorry for posting so many things up but I keep thinking of stuff to say. It's def worth building the PC yourselves it's very very easy to do... and save monies

Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated.I can push the boat out more moneywise if i wanted due to some good fortune but i do'nt want to go over the top and i am really interested in doing a first build. My old pc is getting passed on to the missus for general course work but i may get a new mb for it so can't really grab anything off that.I have a Samsung 2232BW 22' on that and had no problems with it but it is not HD and if i can i will get a higher res monitor.I will also want to overclock at some point and have looked at overclocked bundles but i think i should concentrate on one thing at a time.As for a SSD i think i will slip one in and a 1tb sata for my storage.Just out of interest umboma,i have only just got black ops and not able to play it on my PB but seeing as you game what do you suggest mouse, keyboard and headset wise.I was thinking of a Roccat 5.1 headset but not sure of mouse and keyboard.I could really push the boat out to £2000-£2500 but i think i would be being a bit extravagant.I've noticed that some of the overclocked 3D packages have an overcklocked processor at 4.8ghz and that grabs my interest as i have a Q6600 quad core 2.4ghz in my PB and i am looking for significantly more.I have about a month till my money comes through probate and just sounding out ideas till it arrives.

Yeah if youd prefer to get a bundle you can just substitute one into the build above, that still stands
re mouse/kb etc, it is very much personal, what one person finds comfortabe another might not, if you can youre best going down a local PC shop and trying out a few, even if its not the exact model you end up buying you can try different types and see which feels most comfortable
