So test 1, 2 and 3 all run fine on a 30 min Prime 95 Blend this was done more to establist Temps over stability ... im naturally aiming for that magic 4Ghz stable overclock as so many people out there are and a lot are finding it to so i just hope i can :)

System Specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 964 C3
MOBO: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO
RAM: 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333Mhz ram
GPU: Saphire 5770 Vapor X
PSU: Corsair 650W TX
CPU Cooler: Freezer 7 Pro Rev .2

So yea any ideas would be much apreciated basically the only thing irly tried is upping the multiplyer and tht worked up to 3.8Ghz without any Voltage boost but now at 3.9 and hopefully 4.0Ghz im gonna need some more Volts or maybe a faster NB speed i dont know rly thats why im here i guess :)

Thanks

I'm not familiar with the current Phenoms, but you may have just hit the limit of your chip.

I know a lot of people say the c3's will do 4ghz+ with minimal hassle, but very few seems to be able to actually get there with a stable OC.

Edit: I know they like to be kept cool though, what temps are you getting?

my temps actually are quite good ... well they are wen the windows are open :P

idle temps were always about 36 but on the 3.9ghz tests idle was down to 30 ... very cold room :P and load temps are stated above as 50.5 so theres plenty of headroom there aswell

i know theres more in this chip but as im new i arnt sure how to get at it my guess would be a few things ... extra volts in the CPU ... extra volts in the NB and a higher multi on NB but thts only what i think im kinda here for abit of reasurance and help with my guestimations :D

Edit: Current idle temp at 3.8Ghz is 40 but thts in a nice temp room so thts not a problem ...

any advice people plz ?? its a nice cold night tonyt or atleast it will be so thats perfect for doing some messing ..

thanks

3.92Ghz :)

Well i have 3.92Ghz stable now with these settings ...

Over-clock #11 (10 Hour Prime Blend)
CPU Speed: 3.917 GHz
Multiplier: x19.5
FSB: 200
HT Link: 2000
NB Multiplier: x10
Idle Temps: 33
Load Temps: 50 (½ Hour Prime Blend)
CnQ: Off
Voltages;
Bios: 1.4875V
3Dmark06: 10325
SM 2.0 Score: 3730
SM 3.0 Score: 4260
CPU Score: 5104

so where can i got from here to get to 4Ghz ?? and 1 new thing which have my 3dmark scores gone down ... at 3.8Gzh i got these scores :
3Dmark06: 16443
SM 2.0 Score: 6514
SM 3.0 Score: 7419
CPU Score: 4996

any idea what to do next then ppl ?? 20 multi + voltage or ... 19.5 * 205 FSB maybe ??

Thanks Tonk V8

Ok new reposrt the above results for the 10 hour prime 95 run are all correct however wen i do a prime run in the day while the air is warmer (the air last night way icy cold) the system crashes altho the highest temp wasnt even 54 degrees and tht was after about 20 mins of prime ... anyone have any ideas why it crashed plz ??

very possible i dunno i have added no volts etc etc to the NB tho thts all running at stock atm so yes i know it will get a little hotter but will it get that much hotter ??

thanks

well it must be something to do with cooling as my pc passed a 10 hour run on identical setting over night yet it wont today ... (btw i havent changed the settign in between) ...

the main tamps would be the;
CPU temp (These seem to be within limits according to 2 separate programs)
NB temp (All running at stock so shouldnt have much of a problem)
Ram Temp (Most probable to me rly)

so is there anyway i can monitor the temps for my RAM ?? and this is also running at stock speeds and volts well its set up in the bios as AUTO so it should be ok ...

Thanks

Maybe it has something to do with the time of day as well? Heh.

Like imagine if there was some issue due to the voltage dropping a tiny amount due to more normal people being awake and using electrical devices.

Prolly temps though. Have you tried temporarily mounting/holding a fan or two aimed at your RAM/NB? I don't think it's your CPU, but my graphics card fails some OCs when 5-10 °C higher, so it might just be the CPU temp after all.

the my GPU stays nice and cool thanks to it beinf Vapour X so i know it isnt tht ... and i dont think it is the CPU myself so i may try temp mounting fans like you say

and it shouldnt be the time of day as my system is linked upto a UPS which regulates the power making sure i dont have less voltages etc etc ...

could it be anything other than temps ?? or temps combined with something else ...

my 555 quad is at 3.995Ghz with 235mhz bus and 17x multi, 3hrs prime stable at 1.472v.
i think its also stable at 1.452v, ive gone as far as half an hour, but i dont really have the time atm for a full 3hrs (i like to keep an eye on it). temp under load ~50.c under a zalman 9700

i think the absolute barrier for my chip it not too far past 4ghz - ive gone as far as 1.52v @4.08 and not stable :/

not tried any serious OC in dual core. i have a hunch i may get a fair bit further ... but cba

would you suggest aproaching in a completly different way and insted of using the unlocked multi just going back to 17 or ,aybe 18 and going the fsb route ??

iv been thinking about doing this myself i justdont rly wanna oc my ram cause well i dont like it even tho its the same as urs do you have any problems running it over stock ??

thanks

umm yes and no.

long story long:
the only bios for my motherboard that allows me to unlock is the very first and very buggy one.

one of the aforementioned bugs is that it will refuse to run memory at 1333mhz (max it will is 1066. anything higher than that it goes back to 800)

i can still set it to 1066 and increase the speed via FSB (atm its at 1252mhz). ideally i want a 250mhz clock, but anything over 240 and i get artifacts on the screen (im using IGP, hopefully i can go higher once i go discrete).
you can manually change your ram speed to 1066 in the bios somewhere, so that wont be an issue if you oc the FSB

increasing the bus will get you more speed out of northbridge, HT link, ram and L3 cache.
i would say, see how far you can go with your cpu multiplier first. ill take 3.9ghz on 19.5 as an example for you max cpu overclock.

knock it down to 19x (3.8ghz)
up the fsb to 205mhz (3896mhz)
knock multi down to 18.5x (3690mhz)
up fsb to 217mhz ((3906mhz)

etc.

keep going until system is unstable. back things down to the last stable setting and system overall should be a bit nippier as well :)

well from what i tried last night i knocked my ram down from 1333 to 1066 so i wouldnt be ocing that then i changed my multi down to 17 which is stock for this processor then i ussed the fsb and anything above 220 fsb and it was pretty unstable ... a few times it wouldnt post this is at liek 225 + and between 220 and 225 windows wouldnt boot properly ...

so i think i may try knocking the ram to 1066 again up the sb to 220 then the multi at 18 but thinking about it i may have tried tht ...

yea i tried that with these results ...

Over-clock #6 (½ Hour Prime Blend Only)
CPU Speed: 3.960 GHz
Multiplier: x18
FSB: 220
HT Link: 2200
NB Multiplier: x10
Idle Temps: 33
Load Temps: ## (½ Hour Prime Blend)
CnQ: Off
Voltages;
Bios: 1.4V

it failed to pass 30 mins on prime 95 altho i think i was trying that on stock voltages so that may be why that failed maybe 1.4875 or 1.5 volts would cure that and id have a speed of 3.96 ...

what do you think of that ??

turn HT link multiplier and northbridge multiplier down (8x on both should do it) and crank fsb up.
see if either of those are affecting it.

if this works, then first put northbridge backup to 10x. if its not stable then add some nb volts. if that dont work, then leave multi at 8x (you might get away with 9x). repeat for HT

edit: phenoms are good upto 1.55v. thought if it still aint stable at that voltage (and you fsb is at 220), then its probably not your cpu

ah yea you make a good point there i never considered that yesterday so the settings i should do are ...

Ram 1066 speed
cpu x18
fsb 221
NB 8
HT 10
cpu Volt 1.4875

anything else to consider ??
that should give me ...
4.0ghz cpu
2100 NB
2100 HT

coreect and erm what would the ram be ?? 1172mhz maybe ??

and then see how that goes ??

on second thoughts its proba a bad idea going at it like than maybe i should find the relevant fsb max on maybe 3.8ghz because my cpu needs no added volts to get it to that stable ...

what do you think ??
