If im looking for a home cinema to connect both the sky box into and a dvd player too, do i need to look for something specific.

All home cinemas ive had a cheap search for come with dvd player, which makes me thinks they only come designed for that only, and they mostly look a bit plasticy

What im basically looking to buy is a amp that i can attach both the skybox and my dvd player, and a 5.1 setup. Whats the lowest price i can achieve this for?

From what ive searched this seems suitable,
Yamaha RXV357
Anyone know a cheaper alternative

Your looking at around £200 to £400 for a reasonable system because you'll need some half decent 5.1 speakers with that to be worth it, not sure whats good to get atm so ill leave that for someone else to recommend.

Yeah the all in one kits can have their failings. If you want to get serious about getting good sound the 400-600 is a good starting place. Check out the great package deals at creative-audio.co.uk. Great prices plus they only sell stuff that is good quality, plus proper knowledgeable sales staff.

I'd reccomend something like the KEF 1005 & Denon AVR1906 combo.

I have that Amp & it came as an AV package with 5.1 Speakers for about £180 (Not sure if I can mention the E-tailer incase they are a competitor) just before Christmas & it is perfectly fine for what I need.

Has plenty of inputs...

2 Component Inputs
1 Component Ouput
3 Digital Inputs (1 Co-Ax, 2 Optical)
about 6 RCA ins
is HD Compatible via component
Has all the basic Dolby options including 6.1 with a suitable decoder

The speakers are pretty basic but do sound fine in modest surroundings, the sub rumbles with plenty of authority.

Mine is setup in the front room of my flat which is about 3 metre square & is more than adequate.

It's my first real foray into home cinema...previous experience had been TV packages that came with Surround Sound built in & to me this is pretty much perfect the entry level setup.

HTH
