Hi there

Im thinking of buying the Abit IP-95 mATX motherboard as part of a HTPC with a core 2 E4300 overclocking as much as I can. The spec of the mobo says it supports DDR2 533mhz ram. Now if im overclocking does it make sense to get DDR2 667mhz ram to give me some headroom when overclocking? Or is the ram fixed to a frequency regardless of the fsb speed. Ive had no experience of this generation of hardware.

Thanks

i dont think that mobo will support any type of ram thats faster than 533mhz. so gettin a 667mhz ram might cause some problems..

Thanks. I wasnt sure if it was the same as DDR memory where you could plonk 3200 ram in a 2700 slot, it would just run slower than normal.

That just isn't true. The OP's initial assumption is correct - if the mobo only support 533Mhz RAM then faster memory will just run at 533.

Cheers. Ultimately what im getting at is if i plonk 667 ddr2 in and set the memory to 266mhz and then upp the fsb will it will mean that the memory will be running up to spec? Or would something else stop this from being the case.
