Noob question about memory settings

I am having problems.

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard and an E6850 CPU.

I am using Corsair Ram which says CM2X1024-6400Pro XMS2-6400
The timings printed on the chip are 5-5-5-12, 800MHz.

When I looked at the Corsair site it seemed to suggest my timings should be 5-5-5-15 but it says 12 on the chip....

Having built my new system I am having trouble in orthos. The memory was used before in previous E6700 build OK. I am beginning to suspect I need to amend the memory settings in some way but to be honest I am not sure what...

I have tried both 1GB chips together and seperately and I get the same problems. At the moment I have it using SPD and auto voltages.

CPU-Z says in the CPU Tab Bus Speed 333.3, Rated FSB 1,333.3
Memory tab says it is running at 5-5-5-18, Frequency 400Mhz, FSB:DRAM 5:6

Should I set my settings manually at the 5-5-5-12, up the voltage a bit and is the FSB:DRAM OK at 5:6 ?

I am not trying to overclock I just want a stable system.

CPU temps are never more than 49 C and I am running out of ideas about why orthos is so unstable. It seems OK in the small FFTs test but the blend or long FFT one fail very quickly.

I decided to try changing the memory multiplier to 2 which brought up 667 and spd now sets the memory to 5-5-5-15 and FSB:DRAM 1:1.

I am trying orthos as I type.

I am not really up on changing voltages on memory as I don't overclock and defaults seem to work for me in the past.

In this case I had tried using +0.2 which seemed to not help at all. I think +0.3 is the max I am supposed to change XMS2 by.

I think it may just be not compatible memory as it isn't on the list for the motherboard.

After trying to get a stable build all weekend I am leaning towards buying some different memory that works in this motherboard if I can find some.

Like I say the Corsair worked fine in a previous C2D build but it wasnt a Gigabyte motherboard and it wasn't a P35 either.

The way I understand it, as long as the memory is compatible, 6400 RAM should just work at defaults in the P35C DS3R as long as I don't want to OC?

If anyone has any tips about what other memory to try I am all ears :)

I have had a look about but I am not sure how I find out exactly what voltage my memory should run at.

It is XMS6405V4.1 on the chip which from what I can gather is the Promos stuff.

I am a bit confused because OZC OCZ2N1066SR2GK memory is listed under DDR 800 in the P35C DS3R compatibilty not under 1066, maybe a typo or something I am missing?

because the ram is ddr 800? (ie, pc6400)

So, it is infact, located in the right place.. if it was under 1066, it would be pc8500..
