So after writing off my missus' Corsa, I've come across a nice Peugeot 306. Having checked the paperwork, the car isn't registered to him though. I queried him about this and he said he's a dealer (which I can well believe as he had about 3 cars in his garage), and he never got round to registering it.

Basically, am I better off steering clear, due to the "suspicious" ownership???

Do a bit more digging (HPI check maybe?) then decide if you want to avoid.

Personally, for a 306 (which I assume is not costing mega bucks) I would not worry about ownership too much.

You could always look up the registered keeper on the V5 and ask if they have noticed the car is missing..... ;)

Dealers don't need to register a car, the previous owner should send the yellow slip to DVLA then it'll be 'in the trade' ask to see the V5 it should have the yellow slip missing it's of no benefit to him to just rip the yellow off as then he'll be selling as a trader and SOGA applies, if the yellow bit is present then beware as he's just making some money and not registering cars as a dealer.
