Noob question about XP taskbar.

Me mates just brought his laptop around to be cleaned up a bit and hes got the taskbar at the bottom of the screen set twice the size (double height).
Whats the way to reduce it to normal size/ thickness?
(I said it was a noob question)

right click and unlock it, then resize it the same way you would a window

Well I've tried that and all it does is either disappear completely or return to the same as before

try left and right there should be some dividers fiddle with those
