hi all, gonna seem like a really silly question but i got the xfx 4870 x2

now all the manual says about connecting the power connecters , is that a good connection is to use 2x 6 pin cables or 2x 8 pin connectors

now heres the funny bit , the card itself has 1x 6 pin power connection and 1 x 8

now i can do both with my power supply , but is that what i do ? or do i just connect a 6 or an 8 ?

sorry for silly question , but there manual does not relate to there card

thx in advance

Hi darkBytes,

Welcome to OcUk forums! :)

If the card has 6-pin and an 8-pin port and your power supply also has a 6-pin and an 8-pin PCI-E lead then your sorted!

ahhh damn , though my power supply , has 2 8 connectors one is supposed to go on the main board, damn i got a million sixes , i might be stuffed

The only Molex connector that came with th cards is 2x molex to 6 pin adapter , there is nothing for an 8 pin in the box , I have a spare , 6 pin pci-e cable comming from my power supply, but as i say i dont have an 8 pin pci, I have one that fitds but i need to drop that in my mobo

Yeah that 8 pin is for your M/B.

I can remember that other ATI cards could use 6 pin instead of the 8 pin. As the 8 pin was needed to overclock the card.

Try it I dont think it will harm it. (dont blame me if it does)

hhhmm , the instructions tell me not to plug a 6 pin in the 8 pin connector , so i had best not , looks like i need a new power supply , although my seasonic , is pretty new , just has 2 6 pin pci-e connectors not one 6 and 8.

Apprently 8 bin is a newer standard right , that can draw more watts ?

mine has like 6  but it has 4 8/6pins

just get a converter....strange through, most ATI cards are 2*6pin
