Noob question on folding points.

I been folding for the first time yesterday on the PC. Been folding for almost 24 hours now. On Unit info it says I am 50% done so far on my first unit. Yet on Personal stats I don't have 1 point by my name yet... is it normal? Also on the atom display it don't move around like it do on the PS3 :confused:

Folding on your cpu I take it with a single standard client.

You need the smp client on the cpu and or on the GTX - most smp units will finish in 3-8h for 8-10 times the points of a standard unit.

can you cut and past the FAHlog.txt file or download Fahmon and post a screenshot so we can see what happening

And credit is given for complete units only

Yes I think with my CPU I just downloaded the main one from folding@home, My CPUs in 25%.

you wont get points until the unit is complete and sent back. even then it may take a few hours or more to update the stats. extreme oc stats are behind the offical stats as well.

also running the pretty animation will slow down the units as more cpu time is spent making the pretty picture.

your GPU will produce more points than the CPU I would have thought.

How do I choose using CPU or GPU? I see no option for it

You need the separate GPU client software which can be found here (the BETA section of the software download page):

It is offically still in BETA testing, although personally i have found it to be as reliable or more so than the release software. Just run the software as normal, make sure you have a CUDA compatible driver (almost all are now, but its worth checking) and watch the points roll in!

Would it use more or less eletric than cpu?

It fully loads your GPU and very lightly loads the CPU. I dont know what the power draw of the 8800GTX is, but on my current rig i would say the CPU client only (ie GPU in 'idle') uses less electricity than the GPU client, which adds quite a bit! Only way to know for sure is to get one of the electricity meter things and measure it yourself - it will be quite dependent on overclocks etc.

You really need to use both. Get the SMP client, get the GPU client as well. if you want maximum points (and you soon will!), run the Linux SMP client in a Virtual Machine as it is much much faster than the Windows rubbish client.

I can't see your sig (turned off in my preferences) but I'm guessing you have a quad? In which case a standard single Linux VM using two of your cores will produce more than the Windows SMP client and use less power. The GPU client is hungry and an 8800GTX will eat a fair chuck of power but will produce up to 5500 ppd (points per day)
