NOOB Question on Mhz Calculation

OK So ive got a 7970 on box states 5000mhz but overclocking software states like after burner 925mhz now i know its a multiplied but i cant get my head around this. Because im after a 280x series witch is now 6000mhz base clock. witch would read as what.
Is there some kinda calculator i can use for my noob knowledge also handy for overclocking. thx guys thought i better ask the pros

you have to devide it by 4 or 5x I think to give true MHz speed

I think you're getting memory and core confused.

7970s are 925/1375 @stock, or 925/5500. Divide the memory by 4 to get the actual speed.
