Noob question re DVI cables

My Dell monitor didnt come with a DVI cable, and I think's safe to assume that the Sapphire Radeon 5770 that it will be connecting to won't come with one either.

So I've been looking to buy one seperately. Question is - what's the difference between a 18+1 cable and a 24+1 cable? (other than the obvious answer of the different number of pins!)

Which type do I need?

dvi to dvi all i used when buying one off the bay for 2 quid few days ago.

Yes. Ordered Fri or sat and came monday. Not used it as no tft yet its on its way tho i hope it will be ok the pins seem ok tho 1 on each seems a bit shorter than the rest which i presume is normal.

I think the one with higher number of pins is a dual link cable, only needed for high resolution such as 2560x1600
